FAQs
How Does a Crary Wind System (CWS) Work?
A Crary Wind System provides a constant high-velocity stream of air that is positioned over the cutter bar on a soybean header. This air stream keeps the crops feeding evenly into the combine by pushing it back toward the auger or right onto the draper belt.
What is the yield increase with a CWS?
On average, growers see up to a 1-4 bushel per acre yield increase in soybeans.
What are the additional benefits of a CWS?
While a yield boost is the greatest benefit of adding a Wind System to your header, you will also reduce shatter loss at the cutter bar, increase your operating ground speed, eliminate bunching of the crop on the header and feed your combine more evenly. Plus, in short or wind-damaged soybeans, you’re able to catch them and push them back into the header to maximize yield.
How fast is the air moving at the cutter bar on a CWS?
Air speeds can reach approximately 200 mph (300 kph) on an average 45ʹ header.
Can I put a CWS on a draper header?
Yes! Wind Systems benefit all types of headers and have proven to boost yield – even on drapers! Crary even makes an optional Brush Kit that reduces crop buildup and crop loss off the back of a draper belt.
How long does it take to install a CWS?
It should take two adults about 12-18 hours to install a full system.
What powers a CWS?
A Crary Wind system is PTO-driven off your combine’s feeder house and can be either gearbox or belt-driven.
How much horsepower does a CWS require?
A CWS uses approximately 1 – 1.5 horsepower per foot (0.3 – 0.45 m) of header length. For example, a 35ʹ header uses approximately 35 – 52 hp.
How much weight does a CWS add to the header?
Crary Wind System manifolds and drop tubes are manufactured out of durable, lightweight aluminum. The weight varies depending on the length of your system, but averages 600 – 700 lbs (272 – 317 kg). Wind Systems are shipped in sections for easy assembly and installation.
